From New York Times Bestselling Author, Penelope Douglas, comes the latest New Adult romance...
"We were perfect together. Until we met."
Misha
I can’t help but smile at the lyrics in her letter. She misses me.
In fifth grade, my teacher set us up with pen pals from a different school. Thinking I was a girl, with a name like Misha, the other teacher paired me up with her student, Ryen. My teacher, believing Ryen was a boy like me, agreed.
It didn’t take long for us to figure out the mistake. And in no time at all, we were arguing about everything. The best take-out pizza. Android vs. iPhone. Whether or not Eminem is the greatest rapper ever…
And that was the start. For the next seven years, it was us.
Her letters are always on black paper with silver writing. Sometimes there’s one a week or three in a day, but I need them. She’s the only one who keeps me on track, talks me down, and accepts everything I am.
We only had three rules. No social media, no phone numbers, no pictures. We had a good thing going. Why ruin it?
Until I run across a photo of a girl online. Name’s Ryen, loves Gallo’s pizza, and worships her iPhone. What are the chances?
F*ck it. I need to meet her.
I just don’t expect to hate what I find.
Ryen
He hasn’t written in three months. Something’s wrong. Did he die? Get arrested? Knowing Misha, neither would be a stretch.
Without him around, I’m going crazy. I need to know someone is listening. It’s my own fault. I should’ve gotten his phone number or picture or something.
He could be gone forever.
Or right under my nose, and I wouldn’t even know it.

Bullies, cheerleaders and musicians oh my!
By Cyan *Books Go With Everything*
Sometimes fiction is better than reality
The Story-
Ryen and Misha connect through a pen pal program when they are just kids and for 7 years they grow up and grow close. One night changes everything when tragedy strikes in Misha’s family turning his world upside down. Still reeling but looking to reclaim a piece of his past he enrolls in Ryen’s school under a fake name but what he sees of her is not what she showed him in all those letters. Reality turns out to be a lot uglier than fantasy.
Characters-
Ryen is a teenage girl trying to fit in. She’s not very nice in the beginning but she goes through a heck of a transformation. Trapped in an unhappy life of her own making, this girl is going to need to find herself beneath the lies.
Misha is an intense musician and such a nice guy, he is pretty harsh with Ryen in the beginning which can be hard to read but he more than makes up for it later and with everything he’s going through you totally understand where he’s coming from.
My Love Hate Relationship-
Ryen is not your sweet and light heroine she can be vicious when she wants to be but you can’t help but like her when you get to know the real her. Misha is such a sexy character all that intense artistic passion is hot to read and the sex scenes will have you whipping out the fan. I loved that the ‘meanness’ of Ryen’s character wasn’t taken to far, she never did anything unforgivable, Penelope walked the perfect love hate edge with these characters and that took talent because this could have gone either way.
Penelope also tackles the issue of bullying in a very real way that almost sneaks up on you and slaps you on the side of the head, we get to see both sides and it was a great way to get a message through and have it really sink in
Ratings-
Heat- 5 panty melters (Oh boy will these scenes make you melt #wetnwild #lovemelikeyouhateme)
Romance- 5 gooey hearts (These two will warm your heart by the end of the book)
Writing- 5 sparkly pens (Penelope you are a genius as per usual and the lyrics in the book were amazing!)
Violence- 2 fist punches (There is this one guy that you are really going to enjoy getting punched.)
What Goes With This Book? #needme’s-
Music- Love the Way You Lie by Eminem #MarshalRules
Food- Mac and cheese and a brownie, let’s liberate the carbs! #VivaLaCarb
Accessory- You got a cheerleader outfit hanging around? #GiveMeAP
My favorite quote- “You’re not alone. It gets better. You are important, and you can’t be replaced. Hang on” –Punk 57

Everyone Should Read This Book
By Sandra@readsandreviews
Every once in awhile a book comes along that makes such a huge impact on the reader, that you know you'll read it again and again, its characters and message staying with you for days, weeks, months to come. Punk 57 does this and more.
I had no idea what I was getting into when I bought this, I just knew everyone was reading it. As I fluctuate through book slumps I was looking for something to pull me out of my latest one. Ten hours later, the last page turned, my slump is gone, my heart is pounding, and for the first time EVER I sort of wish I was back in high school with Penelope Douglas's words close to my heart so I could be me because I do me better than anyone.
The characters in this book are memorable, but it's Ryen who stand out and makes the biggest impact. Though the book is told in alternating, 1st person POV, this really feels like Ryen's story. Misha feels almost complete, even as the book begins, but it's Ryen that grabs a hold of you, screaming out for help and for someone to actually see her. She's every one of us, whether we were the popular kid, the outsider, or those that just operated under the radar. As Misha challenges her, demanding the true Ryen emerge, the reader is left with the sense that we can all do better if we just be ourselves.
While Misha felt complete to me, it doesn't diminish his story in the least. The surprises of Punk 57 are his and even when you begin to suspect the twists and turns, the anticipation of revelation doesn't go away. Making this book even better is the absolute chemistry between these two characters who sizzle from their first meeting.
In the society we live in, rife with bullying and the sense that we want those around us to reflect us rather than themselves this is an important book. In a time when people play off other's fears in order to make themselves feel better, this should be required reading...
But...
Caveat:
Before you run out and buy this for your teenager, know that there's some pretty hot sex in Punk 57. I was actually a little disappointed, not because it wasn't written well-it was. It's the fact that it's explicit enough that I'd never recommend it for a high school aged reader (and, yes, I know it's a New Adult, not YA). But, damn, Punk 57 could blow away the YA world!
That said, this is, by far, one of my favorite books of the year.

Definitely NOT what I was expecting!!
By T. Zautner
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I haven't read in months but last night I opened up a new book with hopes that I could get past the first few pages. Book slumps totally suck. I should've known if Pen Douglas wrote it it would be a winner. I absolutely adored the hell out of Punk 57. Thank you, Pen, for helping me defeat my book slump, even if it was only for one day, one book.
Misha and Ryen, as individuals and as a "couple," captivated me from the very first page. Their chemistry, friendship, underlying connection, and tension so palpable. They weren't always likable characters, especially Ryen, but they were characters who showed growth, as well as raw, gritty believability. Whether it's hate, empathy, disgust, love, or even some form of all of those I promise you won't walk away from this book/couple/characters without feeling something.
And don't get me started on the secondary characters. Holy hell, can we say there were so many damn times I wanted to whip out a b*tch slap or put my foot so far up their a**es they wouldn't be able to dig it out for weeks!! I often felt this for Ryen as well. Misha had it right when he continuously used the term brat. All I can say is that kids can be so damn cruel.
Punk 57 was one of those stories that brought me back in time. I remember the good ole days of high school, and not always with a fondness. Ms. Douglas' rich, vibrant, and intricate writing left me feeling as though I was right there in the halls, amongst these characters, living their story in real time with them. And in my humble opinion, no one writes high school angst and antagonism like Pen. She nails it each and every time.
I HIGHLY recommend this book. The only thing I would say is that while it is set within a high school, there is strong sexual content. If you are okay with this than I would also highly recommend this for HS aged kids. It centers around self-worth, impressions, acceptance, confidence, bullying, and the consequences/affects all of this has on our younger generation.
P.s. I DID NOT see that twist coming. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
